Please note: Although the “Tools for Immersive Theatre” retreat is aimed to compliment what we do at Death on Demand, the skills developed will help anyone involved in immersive acting, role play, interactive theatre, improvisation, and much more besides. If you’re not sure this retreat will suit you, feel free to get in touch.

Overview:

Our Tools for Immersive Theatre retreat will equip you with the skills that are essential for work that is similar to the work we do at Death on Demand.

We will explore how to safely use your voice to its potential and avoid damage; use your voice to its full potential, and adapt to performances in different types of venues.

Discover how to create a fully formed, tangible character. We will work on physicalisation and voice to establish character. Study the importance of what a character is saying, their intention, and what that means for you as an actor.

We will explore ways we can use characterisation and intention to make line learning easier and commit it to memory faster. Leaving you room to play, without worrying about the lines.

A large part of what we do at Death on Demand requires on the spot improvisation. We will explore the best ways to untap your improvisation skills, while still staying true to the character and script. We will discuss the importance of remaining present and flexible. We never know what we will be asked by the public! You will gain tools to help you adapt quickly when interacting with audiences in character.

Sight reading is an essential skill for us at Death on Demand. Imagine the scenario, illness happens, you’ve been given a script last minute, you can’t just stare at the page. The show must go on! People are waiting to be entertained! You will learn tips to make the character come alive when you have a script in hand (also useful for R&Ds).

You will be learning in a safe space, there are no stupid questions. Allow yourself to fail spectacularly, and you will learn. You will leave with new tools and form connections to support you on your acting journey.
