“Double or Quits”

It’s 1922. Exactly one year on from the sudden and unexplained death of local millionaire and casino owner, Edward Dell, his relatives are gathering at the family home to celebrate his life. However, a friendly intimate celebration seems to be far from their minds as secrets and resentments are unearthed. Will everyone survive the weekend, or will death once again rear its ugly head?

Meet the Characters

Edward Dell, may he rest in peace, family was his life. But will he start spinning in his grave, when family secrets and shenanigans are revealed this weekend?

“Come on, please, let’s calm down and remember why we’re here. Who we’re here for.”

“A wonderful man who grew his dream from nothing into the highly established and lucrative company it is today. Not only was he a natural businessman, but he was the best father I could have wished for.”

Evelyn Dell-Moore

Heir of the Dell family empire. Evie has never really been the same since she found her father stabbed through the heart with a knife from their own kitchen, exactly a year ago. Could this account for her excessive drinking…?

“Do not start commenting on my drinking tonight, George. Not with guests in the house.”

“Evelyn. My name is Evelyn. Only close family call me Evie, and you and I are NOT close.”

“This is typical of her. My darling sister. Always late for everything. If she even bothers to turn up that is. She’s determined to mess up my schedule for this evening.”

George Dell-Moore. Long suffering husband to Evie. Ex-butcher and time keeper extraordinaire; why else would he keep looking at his watch?

“I know my wife. All this will blow over. She shouldn’t have planned this event on her own. She’s worn herself out.”

“I certainly had no influence or say over anything Evie decided to do with regards to this estate. Especially when it came to spending money.”

“Bloody typical. All you think about is yourself. How you can even think of eating is beyond me!”

Elizabeth Dell

Evie’s younger sister, by 20 minutes! Full of light and laughter, but is she hiding a dark secret? Or is Betty getting the blame… again?

“Urgh. I hate that name. Father only ever called me Elizabeth when he was being deadly serious about something, or if I’d been particularly naughty, which, let’s be honest, happened a lot! Stick to Betty!”

“She thinks my biological clock is ticking. And if I don’t find a husband soon, she’ll never be a ‘grandmother’. Although that in itself is laughable.”

Eugene Darwin

The upper class explorer. Taken in by the Dell family as a young child when their parents died while treasure hunting. But what is Eugene really hunting for?

“Don’t worry ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time to talk to you over the weekend. Who knows, you may all be so fascinated by my tales that you’d be interested in funding my next few expeditions!”

“What is your problem George? Are you jealous of my travels?”

“It’s a bit like ordering a house red instead of consulting the wine list. It’s a recipe for disappointment.”

Shirley Dell

Widow to Edward, and stepmother to Evie, Betty and Eugene. Is she like the wicked stepmother of fairy tales, or is she simply misunderstood?

“I have very good taste, young lady, and I’ll remind you to speak politely to your mother when in the company of guests.”

“Actually, I quite fancy the idea of sailing across the seas, the wind in my hair.”

“I know you don’t believe me when I say this, but I have always cared about you girls. You are the daughters I never had.  I just want you to be happy.”
